Ban Ki-moon

Born in 1944, Ban Ki-moon has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea since January 2004. His bio relates a solid education with degrees in International Relations from Seoul University (1970) and a Master's degree in Public Administration from Harvard University (1985). Ban is a seasoned diplomat serving posts a the UN and Washington. Prior to becoming Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister, he handled the most sensitive dealing between North and South Korea.

Ban has a demonstrated record of accomplishment and would be a solid pick as SG. Moreover, there would be something that all Perm 5 members could like-a small country, strong management and trade background, tested by real diplomatic crises (North Korea), and despite Washington's close ties with Seoul, Ban is perceived by diplomats as his own man and not towing the Washington or the West's line.
